Island Resort Lifestyle Beckons on Florida’s West Coast

By Janan Talafer

The largest of the Ten Thousand Islands on Florida’s West Coast, Marco Island’s white sugar sand beaches, lush, tropical landscape and spectacular sunsets make this small slice of paradise a prized international destination.

It’s no surprise that Trip Advisor named Marco Island one of the top 10 islands in the U.S. Marco Island is a nature lover’s dream, perfect for outdoor water sports including boating, sailing, jet skiing, parasailing and kayaking on the turquoise blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Herons, osprey, roseate spoonbills and bald eagles are a common sight. Sea turtles and shore birds nest on beaches. Manatees congregate in waterways and dolphin play in the Gulf.

The fishing is world-class, drawing avid fisherman from around the world for the abundant catch of snook, amberjack, grouper, cobia, snapper, pompano and tarpon. Even just a walk on the beach can feel like a treasure hunt with the bounty of shells, making the island popular with shell collectors.

“I love living on this great little resort island,” says Cathy Rogers of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. “It has the exotic feel of the Caribbean, but we’re just a half hour from Naples and 90 minutes from Miami.”

For those who appreciate the arts, the Marco Art League hosts several arts festivals. Upscale boutique retail shops can be found at Marco Town Center Mall and the Esplanade Shoppes. In addition, dozens of island restaurants cater to both casual and fine-dining experiences. The island may be small, just four miles wide and six miles long, but there is something for everyone, says Cathy.

Cathy says that after flying for a major airline for over 30 years, it was an easy decision to plant her feet on Marco Island. “With the beautiful beaches, all of the water sports, incredible restaurants and shopping, and the small community feel, why would you want to live anywhere else?”

A custom luxury home marketing specialist and certified residential specialist, Cathy has been among the top one percent of Marco Island realtors since 2005. She specializes in waterfront, beachfront and inland luxury homes and condominiums.
