When George Vanderbilt first looked out across the majestic mountains and wooded valleys of Western North Carolina, he couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful setting anywhere.
Today, more than 100 years after Vanderbilt created his iconic Biltmore Estate, his legacy lives on in residential communities developed from farmland that was once part of the estate. The Biltmore Farms portfolio of properties, including Biltmore Forest and “The Ramble Biltmore Forest,” continue to be a testament to Vanderbilt’s high standards of quality in architecture and craftsmanship and his responsible stewardship of the land.
Incorporated in 1923 and now designated a historic preservation district, Biltmore Forest is a premier community with large estate homes on multiple acres of wooded land. Several outstanding public and private schools, including Carolina Day School, are located here. The newer, gated master-planned community, The Ramble Biltmore Forest, is equally prestigious with spacious custom homes set in 1,000 acres of “curated” forest featuring walking trails, bike paths and direct access to Biltmore Park Town Square.
“These neighborhoods are among the most desirable places to live in Western North Carolina,” says Clary McCall, a real estate professional with Beverly-Hanks & Associates and a specialist in the area’s luxury residential properties.
“The natural beauty of the area is incredible,” says Clary. “The Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the most scenic highways in the U.S. is here and we are blessed with four distinct seasons, but a mild climate even in winter.”
Clary also points out that while local residents can enjoy the sense of privacy and tranquility that comes from being surrounded by woodlands and rolling hills, they are conveniently close to the vibrant city of Asheville with its many arts, cultural, entertainment and culinary attractions. Asheville is celebrated for its artsy vibe and reputation for craft breweries and great dining options.
The sense of tradition is strong in this part of Western North Carolina. The spectacular beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, combined with some of the most sought-after addresses in the Southeast, make this region a popular choice for people of all ages, from families to retirees.
